Do the Math

Updated: Sep 9, 2019

Multiply your age by 365. The answer represents the number of days you’ve spent on earth. For example, if you’re 50 years of age (50 x 365), you’ve been here a total of 18,250 days.

Now say the following statements aloud.

  • “I’m 50 years old.”

  • “I’ve been around 18,250 days”.

Sounds a lot different and it gives you something to ponder.

What’s the point? Be mindful of the time. In the end, you’ll have to account for how you have used the gifts. God deposited much in you and he expects a return on his investment.

Remember the parable of the talents (Matthew 25: 14-30). The person who received five doubled his talents, the person who received two did likewise, but the person who received one buried his talent in the ground. God considered him unprofitable; therefore, what he had was taken.

A few years ago, I bumped into a childhood friend. We shared a bench near the Cleveland War Memorial Fountain (Mall A) in downtown Cleveland awaiting the annual 4th of July concert; the Cleveland Orchestra honors the community with a free concert followed by an explosion of fireworks. Nevertheless, I challenged him to do the math. He nearly sobered up on the spot.
